Stop waiting for the “right” time (really, just stop)

“It can wait until tomorrow.” “I’ll do that later, I’m too busy right now.” Go ahead, keep LYING to yourself. Keep giving yourself every reason to WAIT. Keep telling yourself that you are waiting for the RIGHT time. HA, what is the right time anyway? If we knew what the right time was for things, life would be so BORING. I told myself for years that “now wasn’t the right time to go back to school.” I had too many things going on right? I had to go to work (so what). I had a relationship and friendships, people needed me right? I’m going to be blunt. Stop waiting for what you consider to be the right time to take action in your life. Guess what? If you keep waiting for the perfect circumstances to arise ,then you will never take the first step necessary to become successful.

You need to stop being your own roadblock, life has enough of those, get out of your own way! You need to change your mindset and get your priorities in order. When I decided to go back to school last year I had every reason NOT to go. I didn’t have the money and did not qualify for financial aid [ROADBLOCK]. I told myself that it was “time” so I went down to the local community college to register. I did all of my due diligence and even sat down with a counselor to plan out the first 3 semesters of classes that I would have to take. When I say due diligence I mean it, I was down there early before it was even time to register because I had learned from past experiences that it’s good to do all that stuff early. I was all set to register and then it happened. I was on a waiting list for every class that I needed to take that semester [ROADBLOCK]. I thought to myself, damn I did everything that I needed to do and I still couldn’t get into the classes that I needed. I didn’t give up though.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” – Calvin Coolidge

I was feeling pretty crappy because I had done everything that I needed to do and still couldn’t get into my classes. I thought to myself, maybe it wasn’t the right time. I think that I might have even believed my own bullshit for just a second, and then I sprung into action. I looked for alternatives and found two schools that I thought would be a good fit. One was Fort Hays State University and the other was Western Governors University. I hadn’t heard of either but they both intrigued me because they were both affordable and accredited schools and you could attend both 100% online. I ultimately chose WGU because of the affordability that the school offered and it was one of the best decisions that I’ve made in my life.

I’m currently in school and on pace to finish my bachelor’s degree by next summer. Take action in your life today and don’t wait for a better time or the right time. THE RIGHT TIME IS NOW. This doesn’t just apply to school, you can apply this to anything in your life. Whatever it is that you’ve been thinking about doing or you know you want to do, go out there today and take a step towards it. Don’t wait for another minute telling yourself that it’s not the right time or putting up more roadblocks for yourself that life has already given you. “It can wait until tomorrow.” “I’ll do that later, I’m too busy right now.” ” I can’t afford to wait another day.” GO OUT TODAY AND TAKE THAT FIRST STEP. I promise you it will be worth it.
